5 romantic places in Northern Ireland

Love is in the air!

As are all the overpriced Valentine’s menus promising  romantic ambience with that special someone over the Valentine’s period.

I think there’s more to romance than being squeezed into a room where you are touching elbows with the stranger beside you and have you use the torch on your phone to read the menu.

You don’t need a boat to explore this canal!

After a rather average morning in Kilbroney Forest Park on the shores of Carlingford Lough, my cousin Jordan and I were craving more adventure. We were feeling rather lazy and decided to find a coffee shop on the way home before calling  it a day.

We travelled to Rostrevor via the main Belfast-Dublin dual carriageway so we decided to detour slightly and travel back through Scarva.  We spotted a  tea room there and pulled in to investigate. Before entering the tea room, I noticed Scarva Cycle Hire and thought it was worth a closer look.  Prices start at £3 per hour for adults and £2 for children.  Last year Jordan learned to cycle through the Autism Initiatives Balanceability scheme and he loves to put what he was taught into practice.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Walking path

When one thinks of C.S. Lewis and his Northern Irish roots, it is east Belfast that comes to mind first. A lesser known fact is that he spent his holidays as a child in Rostrevor, Co Down. This beautiful village over looks Carlingford Lough with the Mourne mountains as a backdrop.

The Hillsborough International Oyster Festival (HIO) is now in its 23rd year. Hillsborough is best known for it’s castle –  the official residence for government in Northern Ireland as well as the official residence for the British Royal Family.

This year’s event is  1st – 6th September.  The nominated charities for the proceeds in 2015 are Clubs for Young People (CYP) and Hillsborough Village Centre.
