Unpacking: 27 December – 2 January

How does one unpack a week where one did nothing?

No really, I did nothing. I got to wind down, watch TV, play PlayStation and I even sat down with the laptop and wrote.

I was a runner-up in a competition thanks to On The Luce. I hope to make use of this guidebook soon!

I could probably count on one hand a number of times I left the house this week. Oops.

Board games played a key role this week. The Arnolds cracked out the Monopoly board. Like Scabble last week, there was some inconspicuous play. Between Dad’s sly “You should spend all your money on houses and leave nothing when  for when you land on my hotels. Definitely.” and Mum losing her ability to count, I really had no hope at all.

I ventured out to take Granny shopping and we treated ourselves to some Ground goodies. I may have inhaled some Nutella cake.

New Year’s Eve was a quiet one for me. It was rather different to being in Sydney Habour. I relaxed at home and I did not notice when it was midnight.

I went to the cinema once this week to see Daddy’s Home (it was Kerry’s choice). It was what you expect from Will Ferrell. There were some laughs but that is it.

At home, I watched Cake. There were two mentions of cake in the film, so that was disappointing but Jennifer Anniston performed superbly.

My television highlight of the week was Sherlock. The show received a lot of negative press after its airing but I was more than pleased with the show. I forgot how much I missed Moriarty and I am gutted there is not going to be another installment to next year.

After some weeks off from running (those depressing, dark mornings make running the last thing I want to do), Dad and I did Enniskillen parkrun. Honestly, it was probably my worst run, ever. My time was 28:30 (four minutes slower than my usual pace), but I felt like I had run a lot further. I must improve!

I plan to join a gym in Belfast to help me through the miserable winter mornings. Hopefully, I will have a new personal best in no time. I have set a (small) goal to run 12 road races this year as an incentive to keep me going. Any race suggestions are always welcome!

That’s me for another week. A big Happy New Year from The Sarah Story 🙂
