I love covering events in Northern Ireland; from Culture Night Belfast to the Tall Ships. In addition to this, I preview local events, such as the Hillsborough International Oyster Festival and the Northern Ireland Coffee Festival. On 15-18 October, West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK returns for its twentieth season. Each night, there will be a catwalk showcasing new collections. Additionally, there is a symposium on body image and Sushi Saturday (yum). Below are my top five events this FASHIONWEEK.
The Menswear Show
One for the gentlemen – The Menswear Show is a display of some of the finest male clothing from local and international brands. High street retailers such as Remus, Uomo, Blue Inc and M&S are joined by Marcelo Rodrigues, Lewis Hodges and Jamie Russell among others. In addition to this, FASHIONWEEK is hosting an exciting lingerie show, courtesy of Boux Avenue.
When: 18:00, Thursday, 15 October
Venue: BFW HQ, 11A Bruce Street, Belfast
Tickets: £20, £30 for front row
Designer Boutiques & Local Designers
This show is always popular. Local boutiques such and Blush and Jourdan from the Lisburn Road (fellow BT9ers) join The Style Retreat, Deux Cara and others to display their latest collections. They are joined by local designers including Nor Lisa, Grainne Maher and Gordon Donaldson.
When: 20:00, Thursday, 15 October
Venue: BFW HQ, 11A Bruce Street, Belfast
Tickets: £20, £30 for front row
‘To Be Beautiful’ Brunch Symposium
Body image campaigner Katie Richardson and other experts on nutrition and image are discussing what body image means to you. This will be a great opportunity to discuss and learn about body issues, as most of us struggle with this on some level (especially me!).
When: 10:00 – 12:00, Saturday, 17 October
Venue: BFW HQ, 11A Bruce Street, Belfast
Tickets: Free, but book in advance
The Original Fashion Souk
On 17 October, FASHIONWEEK HQ hosts pop up stalls for vintage and pre-loved clothing. It is a great opportunity to sell clothes that do not get the wear they deserve and also the perfect chance to get some designer bargains.
When: 11:00 – 16:00, Saturday, 17 October
Venue: BFW HQ, 11A Bruce Street, Belfast
Sushi Saturday
This event is perfect for those who are unable to make it to the evening runway displays. 36 of the best looks from the shows are exhibited in the “Directors Cut”. This is a great event for groups of girls and to top it off, there is a sushi filled, Asian afternoon tea. I am curious of what an Asian afternoon tea consists of, so I may have to go and find out!
When: 14:00 – 16:00, Saturday, 17 October
Venue: Zen, Belfast
Tickets: £30, including a welcome cocktail and sushi platter.
These are only a few of the events available at FASHIONWEEK. Tickets may be purchased online and by calling 028 9038 1655.
What is your favourite FASHIONWEEK show? Have I enticed you to attend this year?
Fashion week looks really interesting but if you wanted to attend all of that it would cost a fortune!
