Well, I’m back on the Emerald Isle. Yes, I cried on the subway. Yes, everyone looked at me funny. No, I wasn’t the weirdest person on the subway car (some guy at the other end was loudly singing to himself).
I started the week in New York and got a full day of adventuring with Kas. I continued my habit of lesser known New York museums, visiting the MTA Museum (focussing mainly on the subway) before going to Brooklyn Historical Society. I can’t wait to share these locations with you.
That afternoon I squeezed in a visit to Whole Foods. I’ve seen TV shows that heavily mention this upmarket grocery store but I never went. I got too excited and then smuggled some of their coffee home. Living on the edge.
I got the red-eye back to Belfast and even managed to get some sleep thanks to the row in front of me being empty.
After arriving back in Northern Ireland, I found myself playing catch up with work all week. I did get some release however. Thursday was time for my first event of the Northern Ireland Science Festival. Bex and I attended ‘Sustainable Gastronomy’ at the Merchant Hotel.
It was a seven course meal in which all diners ate every part of certain ingredients. Courses focussed on one ingredient including onion, turnip and beetroot. To make it better, all ingredients were locally sourced.
I ate many things I usually wouldn’t and to top things off, there was an additional course… macarons! I managed to sneak an extra one out of the waiter.
This week brought a massive milestone for me… It was my 50th parkrun!
I’m still waiting to order the famous red t-shirt that I’ll proudly wear every Saturday but… I finally made it into the elusive club!
Timewise, I ran my fastest this year; I finished in 24:56. I’m on the up, but I must get faster. I am pleased to have made it to fifty!
