Beans, baristas, and beverages at the NI Coffee Festival

When I heard there was going to be a coffee festival in Belfast I knew it was something I needed to attend. I was so excited about the event, I caught up with one of its creators, Roger beforehand. NI Coffee Festival was held in T13, Belfast on 26-27 September and brought coffee lovers came from all over the country and further afield together.

Five fab events at West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK

I love covering events in Northern Ireland; from Culture Night Belfast to the Tall Ships. In addition to this, I preview local events, such as the Hillsborough International Oyster Festival and the Northern Ireland Coffee Festival. On 15-18 October, West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK returns for its twentieth season. Each night, there will be a catwalk showcasing new collections. Additionally, there is  a symposium on body image and Sushi Saturday (yum). Below are my top five events this FASHIONWEEK.

Sarah goes… Paddleboarding in Portrush

I often find myself trawling websites for activities to do at the weekends. On one of my searches, I noticed a ‘Roxy Surf and Yoga Day’ at Troggs Surf School, Portrush. I didn’t think much before signing up except for a quick email to the instructor Carl to make sure I was able to complete my regular Saturday morning 5k parkrun at Portrush before the event. He said that would fit in with the programme and I was sold. It was not a difficult sell.

Culture Night Belfast 2015

2015 is the seventh year Culture Night Belfast has taken over the streets of the capital. It is the one night of the year Belfast truly comes to life and the atmosphere is comparable with Times Square,  New York or Bangkok at night.

Unfortunately, there were proposed cuts to the  NI Events Fund, putting Culture Night Belfast at risk of not materialising at all. Thankfully, due to public support these cuts did not transpire and Culture Night Belfast 2015 was due to be bigger and better than ever. Throughout the afternoon and evening of Friday, 18 September there would be over 250 free events to partake in.

You don’t need a boat to explore this canal!

After a rather average morning in Kilbroney Forest Park on the shores of Carlingford Lough, my cousin Jordan and I were craving more adventure. We were feeling rather lazy and decided to find a coffee shop on the way home before calling  it a day.

We travelled to Rostrevor via the main Belfast-Dublin dual carriageway so we decided to detour slightly and travel back through Scarva.  We spotted a  tea room there and pulled in to investigate. Before entering the tea room, I noticed Scarva Cycle Hire and thought it was worth a closer look.  Prices start at £3 per hour for adults and £2 for children.  Last year Jordan learned to cycle through the Autism Initiatives Balanceability scheme and he loves to put what he was taught into practice.
